Job Description Summary: Our mission is in providing performance engineering core skills, tools, methodologies and best practices for the various PayPal components and flows and in the process enable development teams to measure, assess and optimize code with highest performance quality when deployed to production. As one of the engineering leads for the Performance Engineering team, you will be working with a team of strong engineers that services and enables the rest of development community to quickly and reliably performance test, analyze and optimize their code changes. You will be building the next generation performance engineering platform that enables rich data insights into identifying the gaps in existing performance engineering processes and introduce, influence the culture of performance engineering disciplines within the organization. You will be focused on solving the hardest, most interesting challenges of building products that can capture infrastructure, platform, application and database performance metrics as well as develop and manage team to achieve deep dive performance skillsets. You'll build framework that enables the rest of the development community effectively contribute with utilities that can enhance and improve the performance and reliability of various application, infrastructure components at PayPal.

  • Professional Skills and Knowledge:
    • Multi stack development with strong fundamentals in C++, GoLang, Java
    • Thorough understanding of all layer of computer systems, architecture and components: CPU, memory, caching, storage and networks
    • Deep understanding of fundamental system performance and scalability concepts and principles.
    • Good understanding of Operating system concepts for both baremetal, VM as well as cloud environments
    • Experience with scripting such as python, bash, etc
    • Fluency with standard linux tracing, monitoring and perf analysis tools
    • Familiarity with time series data analysis and databases with modeling experience
